How to Label a Parcel in The UK

If you’re selling lots of things online or giving regular gifts to your friends, chances are you’ll probably need to send a lot of parcels. But did you know there’s a right way when it comes to how to label a parcel properly?

To make sending your next batch of packages that much easier, here are top tips on how to label a parcel with Evri for when you next need to use our services.

Label placement is very important when prepping your parcel for delivery, so that it enjoys a quick and direct journey to its destination. We recommend taking the following steps when applying your label:

Remove any old labels from your box

Whether you’re using a newly bought box, a recycled parcel, or sending a return, make sure you remove any old parcel labels, to avoid any confusion for our team.

Position your label in the correct position

If your parcel has flat sides, you’ll need to position your label in the middle of its top. For round parcels, simply stick your label where you have enough room.

Make sure the label sits flat

Your label needs to be clearly visible and shouldn’t bend around the corners of your parcel. This makes it easily readable and ensures its barcode can be read by our scanners.

Tape your label securely

Be careful to secure your label properly so it can’t get lost in transit. You can do this by applying a strip of parcel tape to each of its edges, making sure not to leave any paper exposed.

Don’t obscure your label

This can make reading the address harder, and you want its barcode to be as easy to scan as possible.

Don’t place your parcel label inside your package

Your parcel label should always be on the front of your package.

Don’t stick your parcel label over the package edges

This is to make it easily scannable, but you’ll also want to make sure you tape up your parcel so that the edges don’t open up in transit.

Should you include your return address?

Yes, just write your address on a return label, then stick it on the back of the parcel you’re sending. Ensure you write “return address” above, to make it clear. If you want to be doubly sure your recipient can return your package, you can always leave a second copy of your return address inside your package.
