With Mother’s Day (14 March) round the corner, Hermes has been digging into the data to find out what gifts people are buying and we can reveal: searches for Mother’s Day gifts are up a whopping 229% compared to last year.

It’s no surprise, given we’ll all be celebrating over video calls in lockdown, so just what gifts are people looking for?

To help those looking for inspiration, we’ve pulled together the ultimate list of pressies to help brighten this day for the mother figures in our lives. So, here is Hermes’ Mother’s Day gift guide, based on some of the most searched-for items online.

The research is based on UK Google trends, comparing data for popular gifts for mums between 14-20 February 2020 and the same period in 2021.

What are the most popular gifts of 2021?

Food hampers have received the biggest surge in searches this year, with a 2,300% increase in Google queries. With pubs, restaurants, cafes, and eateries alike off the table for Mother’s Day 2021, it comes as no surprise that we’re all searching for the best way to spoil mum with delicious food to replace the usual afternoon tea.

In fact, food and drink is a big theme in 2021, with chocolate gift boxes, gin gift sets and brownie boxes all seeing an increase in searches.

Flowers, the perennial Mother’s Day favourite, aren’t going anywhere this year, and have retained their position as one of the most searched-for presents.

Letterbox flowers have flourished with a 740% increase, as people search for alternative ways to deliver flowers to mum. Looking for a longer-term gift, flower subscriptions also blossomed, thanks to a 786% increase, helping our mums keep smiling through the time apart.

Looking for ways to keep entertained as we spend more time at home, craft kits – such as pottery, embroidery and painting – saw an uplift in interest as we try to find our new talent with the spare time we have on our hands.
