MP visits purpose-built Hermes depot in his constituency

Sir Mike Penning, the MP for Hemel Hempstead, has this morning visited the Hermes depot in his constituency to hear about the investment in its environmental capabilities.

The MP, a former Minister of State, was taken on a tour of the building by the Hermes Depot Operations Management team.  The purpose-built Hemel Hempstead site opened in October 2018 and is one of 26 depots across the country operated by the business, forming an integral part of the national operation which delivers 390 million parcels a year.

It has environmental capabilities including; rain water harvesting, solar panels, LED lighting and solar thermal hot water – contributing to Hermes’ focus on sustainability. Just last month, Hermes added a further 42 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuelled vehicles to its network after a successful 12-month trial which delivered carbon savings in excess of 4,000 tonnes.

The tour was then followed by discussions around Hermes’ overall business performance, which has seen double digit growth over the past few years; as well as regional investment and employment. More than 120 people work at the Hemel Hempstead depot.
